Angelina Jolie’s €221,000 (but who’s counting) engagement ring took perfectionist Brad Pitt a year to design. He sat down for many a session with Angelina’s private jeweller Robert Procop, who was commissioned to make this achingly beautiful piece. Pitt’s feelings for the beautiful film actress and humanitarian are on display in this ring: it features a large square diamond inset into a thick ribbed band. The table-cut ring has a total weight of 16 carats with a centre stone of 7 carats. It is entirely stunning.

Jeweller to the Stars, Robert Procop (know for celebrity engagement rings) said, “Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realised over a year-long collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand. Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution. The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality. It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy.”
The engagement was prompted when the couple’s six children told Pitt to “get mommy a ring.” It seems that Mr Pitt got on it right away!
CORRECTION - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie engaged
Jeweller Robert Procop had worked with Angelina Jolie-Pitt long before Brad decided to look him up. Procop and Jolie-Pitt collaborated on a collection featuring precious gems such as emeralds and tourmalines set in yellow and rose gold. It was named the Style of Jolie Collection. All proceeds are donated to Jolie-Pitt’s charitable foundation, The Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.
Charitable Donation
True to her charitable nature, Jolie-Pitt donated one of the pieces to Smithsonian’s National Gem Collection. Renowned for the display of rare pieces such as the Hope Diamond, the National Gem Collection is one of the most visited exhibitions at the Smithsonian.
The piece she donated? An extraordinary citrine necklace. The 18-karat yellow gold necklace features 64 graduated bezel-set cushion-cut citrine gems, highlighted by a 177.11-carat pear-shaped citrine drop. The piece, named the Jolie Citrine Necklace, will remain on view indefinitely.

Citrine is a unique variety of quartz. Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals in the Earth’s crust. In its pure state it is colourless and known as rock crystal quartz. However, small impurities can yield a wide range of colours. Citrine is the golden-yellow to orange variety of quartz but coloured by traces of iron.
The Smithsonian Jewellery
“We are thrilled to receive this important piece for the Smithsonian,” said Jeffrey Post, curator of the National Gem Collection. “It is the first piece of citrine jewellery in the collection. The fact that it was personally designed by Angelina Jolie-Pitt and Robert Procop makes it all the more significant.”
When she donated the piece, Angelina said,
“Robert and I are honoured to have this great institution feature one of our jewelled creations. As the Smithsonian has educated so many of us so this jewel is a symbol of our efforts to help educate underprivileged children in conflict areas of the world.”
You can see why Brad chose Robert Procop as the jeweller to make Angelina’s engagement ring. Mostly because she already had an intense relationship with both Robert and with beautiful jewellery. He was definitely the man for the job.

This ring is one of the unique pieces designed by Robert Procop and Angelina Jolie for the premiere of her film Maleficent. Because it was inspired by the dramatic aesthetic of her dark character.
