Sotheby’s are preparing for an April sale of the Pink Star diamond in Hong Kong. It was auctioned three years ago and was sold but due to payment issues the sale fell through.

The unmatched oval shaped diamond is 59.60 carat in weight and is internally flawless. Its colour is fancy vivid pink and the diamond sale is expected to well exceed $60 million. This ranks the diamond as one of the world’s most expensive diamonds and the worlds most expensive Pink Colour Diamonds.
Due to its exceptional size at 59.60 carats. Also paired with the fact that the diamond emits a richness of colour rarely seen it is expected.  This sale will transcend any known pink diamond recorded in history.

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has stated that the ‘Pink Star’ is the largest Fancy Pink Diamond it has ever graded. It has put a grade of ‘IF’ (internally flawless) with is extraordinary in such a large precious stone.

To put things into perspective the ‘Pink Star’ is more than twice the weight of the other ‘heavy weight’ in the pink diamond category which is the ‘Graff Pink’.  The ‘Graff Pink’, is a diamond which has set the current record for a pink diamond. It is 24.78 carat in weight. It sold for for $46.2 million in 2010.

Pink Colour Diamonds Default.

As mentioned ‘The Pink Star’ surpassed the Graff Pink in November 2013 at auction.  A diamond cutter Issac Wolf, bought it at Sotheby’s for a record $83.2 million.  Later Wolf and his investors whom he was involved with defaulted on the payment.  So the stone was returned to Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s has now valued the diamond in its inventory for $72 million.

So there you have it folks.  You have until April 4th to get the funds together to buy this very precious diamond.
