July Birthstone Ruby

The July Birthstone Ruby is the birthstone for the month of July and as such is said to be the symbol of rebirth. It is also believed to grant the owner  good fortune, foresight, youth, confidence, strength and vitality, wisdom and success in love.

The July Birthstone Ruby is a hard gemstone and is second only to diamond in hardness which makes it exceptionally durable to wear and tear.

The colour of the Ruby is the most important factor in determining the price and gems with medium or medium dark vivid red or faintly purplish red are the most expensive and are highly prized.

The Ruby is said to have healing properties and is supposed to be particularly effective in helping with blood and infection problems. It is also said to enhance energy, and bring prosperity and success.

The word ‘Ruby’ comes from the latin word for ‘red’ which is ‘ruber’.

The Ruby is found in countries such as Burma, India, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Tanzania.
